Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring component of the Cannabis plant that has been proven to have some health benefits. For this reason, the constituent can be found in many pharmaceutical medications. As is the case with any plant extract, identifying quality CBD is an important part of the process. Here are four things to look out for in order to determine higher quality from lower quality.
1. The CBD is extracted from all parts of the plant.
High quality CBD oil should be extracted from all parts of the plant. The cannabis plant is comprised of three primary parts: the flowers, the stalks and the seeds. Oil that is extracted from the entire plant, instead of just one portion, is much richer in natural occurring ingredients. Some of these include sugars, flavonoids, secondary cannabinoids and terpenes. These components are found in all parts of the hemp plant and are believed to work better together.
2. How the CBD is extracted.
Look for a cold extraction. Heat extraction can be cheaper, but it kills the good stuff. We use a CO2 extraction which is the safest cold method.
3. It has less than .03% THC or like ours, NO THC.
Although related to cannabis, CBD is legal and doesn’t cause the same high that marijuana can. For this reason, it is important to ensure that the THC concentration in any CBD is below .03%. Think of this like a poppy seed bagel and opiates. Although there are trace amounts of opiates in poppy seeds, we don’t feel any effects from eating bagels. Heroin contains a great amount of opiates and therefore causes the reaction it does. This same principle exists for the trace amounts of THC in CBD. 4. Know the source of the hemp plants.
Perhaps the most important method for identifying quality CBD is knowing the origin of the plant. Some companies purchase lower-quality hemp plants from foreign countries.
